In the 2113 earth won a surprise victory over an invading alien force, and new technological
developments resulted from the alien science introduced to humankind: advanced A.I. and robotics, faster and more reliable
space flight, powerful weapons technologies, and near faultless gene manipulation.
It was once theorized that all
mankind would unite upon finding a common alien threat and greater scientific knowledge but this assumption did not prove
true…
Now some 3700 years later humanity has taken to the stars in a spectacular wave of interstellar colonization.
However little has changed. Corporations, Religions, and Militaristic Governments run the lives of trillions of human beings.
Money, sex, and power are still the primary motivators for human achievement. From a strictly human standpoint, life goes
on as it always did but with a few new twists…
Racism is rampant as usual but now hate is directed at the other
sentient alien races that have made contact with humanity in addition to infighting among the various human ethnic groups.
Many robots have developed true autonomy and self awareness forming several hidden separatist (and in some cases terrorist)
colonies.
Wars between nations are still not a thing of the past even though every nation got their own planet to
settle. Warfare is now waged with mighty spacecraft and power armored troops for reasons more convoluted and seemingly senseless
than ever before. (usually corporate politics are heavily involved)
The virtual universe is almost as important as
the tangible as the massive jump gates that connect humanity also connects the Interstellar Information Network called the
simply “The Net”. The Net is the home of all popular media outlets and secular communication services as well
as the banking systems. There are other denizens as well, dangerous hackers and security programs that can fry a humans mind
as well as free floating A.I. (the latest form of the old-fashioned virus) with their own mysterious agendas.
These
are but some of the issues and problems faced by those who live in the year 4825. Are you a soldier, a criminal, or a saint?
